Horse Adventure Therapy

Reconnect with confidence, presence, and clarity ... guided by horses.

Horses have a gift: they respond to who we are in the moment. They don’t judge, they don’t pretend, and they don’t get caught up in our stories. They simply show us what’s real, and invite us to meet them there.

I call this Horse Adventure Therapy. It’s not therapy, but it is therapeutic. It’s about guided experiences with horses that open up space for reflection, growth, and calm. Together, we explore how horses can help you find your footing, restore balance, and step forward with new confidence.

Who it's for

Horse Adventures are designed for people who want to:

  • Recover from burnout or exhaustion

  • Build self-confidence and clarity

  • Support kids or teens with focus and regulation challenges (including ADHD)

  • Explore mindfulness and presence in a fresh, embodied way

  • Step into leadership or change with courage and calm

You don’t need horse experience and there’s no riding involved. Sessions are on the ground, and guided safely.

Focus & Flow for Young People

Playful, structured sessions with horses designed for kids and teens who find focus difficult. Horses help them practice presence, awareness, and confidence — while having fun.

How it works

Each session is shaped around you, but typically includes:

  1. Arrival and intention — setting the tone and pace.

  2. Horse connection — guided activities with the horse (no riding).

  3. Reflection and coaching — structured prompts, conversation, or journaling.

  4. Integration — grounding practices you can take into everyday life.

Why horses?

Horses are sensitive, relational beings. They reflect our presence, our energy, and our patterns. When we meet them with openness, they become powerful mentors, showing us new ways to be calm, confident, and connected.

Why work with me?

I’m a registered teacher, spiritual health specialist, and coach with years of experience helping people move through burnout, self-doubt, and significant life transitions. I’ve also supported children and teens with ADHD to find confidence and focus. My work with horses brings together all of these threads; blending learning, coaching, and spirituality in a grounded, practical way.

Research and influences

My approach is shaped by both research and practice.

I am an approved facilitator of Dr. Beverly Kane’s pioneering program at Stanford University, Medicine and Horsemanship, where horses are used to teach medical students and other health professionals about presence, non-verbal communication, and compassionate care. Research from this program has demonstrated that working with horses can increase self-awareness, communication skills, and confidence in high-pressure professional contexts.

I am also deeply influenced by experiential learning methods. With over 20 years of experience designing and delivering experiential programs, I know the power of hands-on, reflective practice to create lasting change. Horses naturally invite this kind of learning - immediate, embodied, and memorable.

In addition, I draw from the principles of Bush Adventure Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). These approaches emphasise mindful awareness, values-based action, and the restorative role of nature and adventure. Combined, they provide a solid foundation for the Horse Adventures I facilitate, ensuring that each experience is not only engaging and meaningful, but also informed by decades of experience and available research.
